Shonn Greene is the Best Back in the Country
There has been so much hype about Javon Ringer that I have wanted to puke. I even blogged after the Iowa/Michigan State game earlier this year that Greene was the better back. Ringer hasn't even sniffed my top 5 since that game (if only I actually had a vote).

At 5'11 235 pounds, Greene has the size and strength to pound out the tough yards. He showed his speed last week as he had runs of 12, 34, 52 and another 34 yards all for touchdowns.
The only thing he is missing is catches. He needs to become a weapon out of the backfield to become a complete back (he only has 6 catches through 8 games).
After Greene's 217 yard 4 touchdown performance Saturday against Wisconsin the national media better start paying more attention to him.
As for his Heisman hopes. He's definitely on the rise. He needs to finish the season very strong and have a huge game against Penn State on November 8th if he's going to get an invite to New York.

Right now Greene is on pace for 1731 yards and 15 touchdowns. Impressive, but not Heisman worthy.
Last year Darren McFadden ran for 1830 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also had 21 catches and 1 touchdown, and he threw for 4 more touchdowns. In case you don't remember, he finished 2nd to Tim Tebow in Heisman voting.
Tebow had 55 combined touchdowns through the air and on the ground last year. This year, David Johnson of Tulsa (No. 19 in the BCS) is almost on pace to throw for that many scores. Bradford should get close to 50 total touchdowns. And who knows who else from the Big 12 is going to explode this season.

I'm voting for Shonn Greene :-)
Shonn Greene is becoming a serious contender...he has a 6.53 yards per carry average and tons of Big Ten defenders have commented on how they hate tackling him. In my opinion, he is ahead of Ringer. He's about 30 yards short of Ringer, but Greene's carry comparison in relation to yards is a lot more impressive.
But I do have to say I think it really hurt Greene by being away for a year--people are just starting to figure out who the guy is 8 games into the season..that could be a problem. But if he keeps having games like he did against Wisco, he'll get a lottt more notice.
I really think the thing that may help Greene's case is putting up the same numbers he has all year long against Illinois and Penn St. Not because it is Illinois and Penn State, but because both are more than likely going to be on ABC and have at least a 2:30 start time.
This will give Greene more national attention and boast his Heisman hopes. He has been hurt a lot by not having more nationally televised games. That along with his being gone a year has made a lot of people as, who is Shonn Greene?
My prediction is that by the end of November everyone will know exactly who Shoon Greene is.
Attention Sports Fans:
Hey guys, just wanted to extend everyone an invite to my house (923 e. Jefferson) this Saturday for an awesome day of tailgating, lawn games, and football watching. There’ll be games on multiple large-screen TVs starting at 11am and leading up to the big primetime match-up (No, not PSU/OSU, Notre Dame v. Washington!). I have a pretty big yard so all day we’ll have games going on (Bags, Australian Frisbee, Pong/Flip Cup, etc), and we’ll also grill plenty of meat. Feel free to bring friends/girlfriend/boyfriends/dogs (the yard is fenced in and my dog could use company). I’ll probably get a keg from John’s of something decent, let me know if anyone has any particular requests. Hope you guys can all make it!
P.S. Dave you don't have a blog I can post this on, but you're expected to make an appearance as well.
I agree. He's the best I've seen this year, by far. I kept asking myself whether I just think that because of my Iowa ties, but ... no. He's NFL ready.
I know Shonn Greene is the best back in the Big Ten without question.
I'm not sure Greene is the best back in the country because of who we've played.
I'd definetly put him in my top 5 backs, no doubt about it.
I'd like to see Greene go up against the likes of LSU, Oklahoma and Alabama before I annoint him the best back in the country.
Just think where Iowa would be without Greene.
I don't want to think about where we would be without Greene, but yet at the same time we were coming into this season wondering what we were going to have out of our backfield. I like Hampton a lot and think he will be a good back for us...Jason Ford could have been that back but he decided to go with Zook...looking at both play now I like the way things ended up.
