Who Should Win College Football Awards?

I could go through and tell you every single award, but I'm only interested in a few. So here's who I think should/will win the awards and why.

Fred Biletnikoff (Best WR) Award:

Michael Crabtree -- Texas Tech

To me this is the most obvious award winner. He had 93 catches and 18 touchdowns this year. He won this award last year as a freshman, as well.

Chuck Bednarik (Most outstanding defensive player) Award:

Aaron Maybin -- Penn State

This would be the fourth year in a row that a player from Penn State would win the award (Dan Connor won last year and Paul Posluszny won it two years in a row before that. Maybin deserves the award for being the anchor of the fifth ranked defense in the nation. He is fourth in the nation with 12 sacks.
I wouldn't be surprised if either James Laurinaitis or Rey Maualuga wins the award, but, to me, Maybin is the most deserving.

Davey O'Brien (Most outstanding quarterback) Award:

Sam Bradford -- Oklahoma

Bradford has more touchdowns and fewer interceptions than the other two finalists for this award (Graham Harrell and Colt McCoy). He also has the highest quarterback rating of the three.

Doak Walker (Most outstanding running back) Award:

Shonn Greene -- Iowa

Greene is the best running back in the nation, hands down. He is the only player to rush for over 100 yards in every game this season. He had 17 touchdowns and over 1700 yards. Also his 6.2 yards per carry is higher than either of the other finalists' (Knowshon Moreno - 5.9, Javon Ringer - 4.3).

Maxwell (Most outstanding player) Award:

Colt McCoy -- Texas

This is a tough decision. I believe that Colt McCoy will take this award tonight because he was more important to his teams' success than the other two finalists' (Tim Tebow and Graham Harrell). I'm not taking away anything from Tebow and Harrell's performances this year, but try and name some of the players on the field with McCoy. A lot harder to come up with Jordan Shipley or Quan Cosby of Texas than Michael Crabtree of Tech or Percy Harvin of Florida.
Does this mean I think McCoy will win the Heisman?
I wouldn't rush to that judgement if I were you. I will blog about the Heisman tomorrow afternoon.

Don't forget to vote to the right of my blog on who you think will win the Heisman Trophy Saturday night!

Greene takes the Doaker as Tony Dorsett was referring to it as.

I find it interesting that all three Heisman contenders won a major award. That tells me that the voting is perhaps closer between the three candidates than originally thought.

I assumed Bradford had a lead, but I think coupled with the media influence and I'll admit he does grea things on the field, Tim Tebow has fought his way into a showdown wtih Bradford. I find it odd though that McCoy is becoming more and more of an afterthought.

Is it because his team didn't make the national title game? They would've been there if the BCS picked them ahead of Oklahoma. (assuming they would beat Mizzou)
The other thing is McCoy certainly was just as good if not better than Bradford in their little neutral field heads-up showdown.

You didn't mention this but I was watching the awards last night and I loved the special thing on Tim Tebow after he won the Disney Spirit Award or whatever it was called. I knew he did a lot of good things for th community, but never that much. It just made me have a bigger crush on him. But as much as I liked the story, I think they went a littttle overboard on him--interviewing both his brothers and a sit down interview with his parents. But I love him.

The Maxwell award is turning into the award you want to win. The Heisman has basically turned into a joke thanks to ESPN. The best player in the country no longer wins it. ESPN choses who they want to win it. The former winners and writers should be ashamed of their voting habits. They need to stop listening to ESPN and actually watch the games and look at the numbers. McCoy won the Maxwell as he should because be was the best all around player this year. His numbers proved it and he did it with less talent compared to Bradford and Tebow.
And to Megan's comment about Tebow...I'm getting sooo tired of them constantly showing everything that he does. OK we've seen it for three years now and they've just been showing more and more as he's gotten older. I GET IT! He's the son of a pastor and he's basically doing God's work everywhere he can. That doesn't mean it has to be shown at every chance. I kind of blame Tebow for allowing them to film him do good things. He needs to stop being a media whore and just do good because it's who is. KEEP IT AWAY FROM THE CAMERAS!
